In Memoriam …

“… Surely I would not have eaten of that fruit, if God stood before me, before my eyes and commanded anything, I would rather die than disobey …”

How many minds, contemplating that story of old, the events that took place in the garden of Eden, must have thought along similar lines?

A preacher (Ravi) once said, “The Garden of Eden is lived out every day in somebody’s life”.
At some point through the journey of our lives, we all will find ourselves in a “garden of Eden”, and what we each ought to asked ourselves is how we have fared? Do we do better than they did?

I do not know, but somehow I think not. At least Eve did not fill her pockets with extras (not that she had any pockets) and neither did Adam go for a second helping, and I think there are some of us who might have.

I’ve humoured it up a bit, but the truth of the matter remains, that constantly, the world tugs at our hearts, bombarding our minds with rich imagery of what the flesh desires, that in fulfilling these illicit pleasures, we might give up our love for God, and be cut off from Him who has always truly loved us.

And now, even as we contemplate that latter story, the events that marked the beginning of God’s redemptive plan, His ultimate solution to all of the “Garden of Edens” in which we crash and burn, and our frail humanity revealed, laid bare before our very own eyes, I implore that we not allow ourselves to depart from the true meaning of this season, that whatever this season might or might not mean, we focus on Christ, the author and finisher of our faith.

Finally, let us pray to God our Father, that our hearts be not ensnared by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes nor the pride of life (1 John 2:16).
That our hearts might remain in the right place, we, upon whom the ends of the world are come (as the bible puts it)

Best wishes this season :)
